Wow, no interest at all this time around? The books seem to have gotten decent action.
I'll keep it short and simple...only two plays stand out on the card. Odds still available at Sportsbook.com and BetWWTs.com. I believe OLY has closed. Show does not start until 8 PM ET.
1. James Spader
Best Dramatic Actor +400-+500
Opened at 8-1 and bet down to 4-1. Most pundits are expecting LaPaglia to take this, but Emmy voters seem to love The Practice when they have their game face on. Spader essentially made such a splash that he's getting a spinoff, which is unusual for a show that was on its last legs.
Shatner and Sharon Stone won at the prelim Emmy ceremony last weekend for their guest roles on the show. That may mean nothing, may mean something. I think his is the strongest, most impressive performance of the five nominated. Someone mentioned how much voters like to reward David E. Kelley actors, as well. I've liked this play since it opened. He's really, really good.
2. The Daily Show
Best Comedy/Variety Series -120
Opened at +200. Chappelle's Show was the popular pick going in, but there's no way DS loses in an election year. Pretty easy winner, IMO.
I also put a couple hundred bucks down on Matt LeBlanc and Larry David for Best Comedic Actor, as their odds were astronomical. (+2000-+3000.) There's a chance Ritter and Grammer will split the votes and a dark horse could come in. David was especially good in his season finale. I don't really expect them to win, though.
That's all, folks. Enjoy the show.
